SCAMPI Team Training

This two-day workshop is the official team building and training workshop from the Software Engineering Institute and directed at appraisal teams who are planning a SCAMPI (Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement).

The training focuses on the team building aspects as much as the technical activities related to the approach. It is required for any team that is planning on holding an official type A SCAMPI appraisal (benchmark appraisal) and recommended for anyone who is planning on participating in a type B SCAMPI (process improvement appraisal).

An optional (third) day can be tagged on to this workshop to start collecting and reviewing some of the potential documents to be found for an appraisal in a given organization.

Rapid Process Modelling

A process development team is led through the steps of creating a process rapidly and efficiently. While the full process may not be completed within the two days of the workshop, the team should be able to continue and finish the development activity within a few days of the workshop rather than spending weeks or months identifying needs and requirements.

The workshop uses facilitation techniques to identify the right level of process modelling and develop something that can be piloted, measured and implemented throughout the organization with days rather than months.

Process Team

A two-day process improvement workshop aimed specifically at the people who need to make it happen. This workshop is for quality assurance and engineering process groups and covers the key aspects of process improvement as the organization matures, what are their roles and how the teams relate to each other.

It is recommended that this workshop be attended by the full process improvement team and quality assurance team at the same time as it is an interactive exercise seeking to establish the relationships between the two teams and gain understanding and commitment.

Process Improvement

A one-day introduction to the key principles and practices of process improvement, focusing on setting the priorities and requirements for a long- term improvement programme. This course will identify the areas on which to focus and identify some of the main areas that need to be considered before a successful programme is truly initiated.

The course aims at providing participants with the knowledge they need in order to implement an action that aims at improving the quality of the processes, products and projects of the organization rather than focusing only on compliance to models and standards.

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Identifying the real objectives
  • Building a winning team
  • Setting up the basics
  • Creating the improvement plan
  • Communicating
  • Motivating the process users

Introduction to CMMI

This three-day course introduces systems and software engineering managers and practitioners, appraisal team members, and engineering process group members to Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI) fundamental concepts. CMMI models are tools that help organizations improve their ability to develop and maintain quality products and services. CMMI models are an integration of best practices from proven discipline-specific process improvement models, including the CMM® for Software, EIA 731, and the Integrated Product Development CMM.

This course is a highly dynamic workshop in which exercises, discussions and role-plays take the central part to ensure that the concepts are seen from a realistic and pragmatic aspect rather than a theoretical exposé.

This course fulfils a prerequisite requirement for any course requiring an official SEI Introductory CMMI course (e.g. this course is required for all team members of a Class A SCAMPI appraisal).
