The Smell of Maturity

Many experienced lead appraisers will say that they can identify the maturity of an organization very rapidly, before they start to collect the data required to identify what it really is. This is a very useful feature as it rapidly allows one to identify where to look for strengths and weaknesses. I have tried to list in this paper some of the aspects that would define organizations at different levels of maturity.

This is not to be considered as a correct document, it is a "feeling" document and the information in it is very dependent on the culture of the company, the department, the country. However, this may be useful to some people to explain what maturity means. The document focuses on positive aspects rather than focusing, as so many do, on what is missing. This is because, in my experience, most organizations believe that things are as good as they can get...
